Media & Communication

Personal statement

Hi, I'm Steve.

I'm currently in my final year at BCU studying Media and Communication specialising in Radio, due to graduate in July 2019.

I currently reside in Coventry, but I work across the West Midlands.

Throughout my studies, I have gained a huge amount of skills and expertise learning how to edit audio, script and produce commercials, as well as creating documentaries. I also have experience as a print and broadcast journalist, having my work published on Smooth Radio, Heart FM and Birmingham Eastside.

I began my journey in radio at the age of 12, where I presented a show on my school’s radio station. Since then, I have interviewed Scouting for Girls for Scratch Radio my university radio station, created and formed a pop up dance station that featured Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and co-presented a show on BBC WM.

One of my biggest passions is football. I created a short documentary last year based on West Midlands icon Cyrille Regis who passed away in early 2018. I am currently in the midst of producing my final major project, which is a radio documentary on the lack of Indian and Asian footballers within the top leagues, presented by BBC presenter Qasa Alom.

I have also been lucky to work as a Brand Ambassador for Global for the past 2 years, working shifts such as Love Island promo, Olly Murs concert in Worcester and the prestigious shift, Capital’s Summertime Ball.
