My name is Shazna Mohamed Nazeem, a Media and Communication student due to graduate in July 2020. I am currently searching for an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge I have acquired through university and put them into real-life practice, especially in the PR and Marketing industry. I have enhanced my skills working in a team as well as using my initiative throughout my time at university and the placements I have taken.
As a broad course student, I was able to explore different areas of practice in the media through the modules I chose, including PR, Television, Visual Design and Events. Across my three years of study, what I learnt from each module allowed me to discover my growing interest in PR which I had no understanding of prior to university.
I have gained greater knowledge in written work as I have compiled research reports and press releases, as well as practical work including campaign proposals, holding events and pitching my ideas to a client. Not only has this given me valuable experience, but it has increased my confidence and skill of communicating effectively.
Undertaking work placements in PR, Television and Events gave me the professional exposure behind each sector and has helped in shaping my career path. I was a PR and Marketing intern for a luxury fashion brand, Juliet Herrera, where I was able to put my skills into professional work. Within PR and Marketing, I am specifically drawn to the fashion and beauty sector and my experience with Juliet Herrera allowed me to get the basic experience I need to start with.
For my major project, I am in the process of launching my own halal food blog in the form of a website and across social media platforms. This project allows me to put all my social media skills into practice as well as my knowledge in marketing the blog as a brand.
