"Journalism can never be silent: that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault." - Henry Anatole Grunwald
Hello! I'm Priyanka and throughout my three years at university, I've developed great interests in becoming a professional journalist. I have learnt many things such as: interviewing, media law, writing various styles of articles, reporting on events and newsgathering.
In addition, I also had the opportunity to study abroad in America during my second year; gaining experience working for a student newspaper and learning in a different environment. I developed my confidence as I met new people and enhanced my networking skills and learnt how to adapt in a new environment. I also gained a new perspective of how journalism is perceived in a different country; providing me with a wider sense of how diverse journalism can be.
For my final project, I am producing a Bollywood-inspired fashion and beauty website aimed at 16-34 year olds which focuses on British Asian identity amongst young people, as well as combining British and Bollywood culture together with various content from: beauty, fashion, features and reviews. As I have an interest in fashion and beauty journalism, this website will showcase the content I can produce in that specialism.
After I graduate in July 2020, I am hoping to gain an internship at a news or magazine organisation in order to develop my existing skills and learn from industry mentors who can help me to build on becoming specialised in the future.
