Personal statement

Please see my website here: https://ellasquire.wixsite.com/profile. You can see my media portfolio, a range of my radio work and photography.

A creative, success-driven and confident individual with a real passion for both writing and music. I discovered my flair for radio when I was 17 and offered work experience with Steve Lamacq on Radio 6 Music after featuring on a segment of his show. I am currently looking for work in the radio and music industries, particularly in the field of music programming.

Since then, I have left no stone unturned in the world of media. I am on track to receive first-class honours in my degree, and have involved myself in all aspects of extra-curricular activity- from presenting weekly, managing Scratch, the university radio station, regularly interviewing and photographing gigs, acting as a mentor for first-year students and an ambassador for the university and organising university events. I have completed an internship at Liquid Productions (now Liquona), a video production company in London, and worked as a photographer at festivals including Guitars on the Beach. My love for writing and music expands further than university- I am involved in the Birmingham poetry scene and write my own music.

More recently, when acting as Head of Music for FADE (a pop-up radio station), I discovered my love for music programming. This, alongside copywriting, is where I feel my real capabilities lie within the media industry. I also am an experienced presenter who can present using both a commercial style and a calmer, specialist style. You can listen to some of my specialist shows on my Mixcloud here: https://www.mixcloud.com/ella-squire/

Please enjoy a sample of my music photography on the right. I also recommend watching the interview I led with Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones star) for FADE Radio above.

My current major project is a podcast called New City Sonics (https://ellasquire.wixsite.com/newcitysonics) - a podcast exploring music scapes in other cities. The podcasts include live sessions- recorded by myself- thus promoting new and exciting artists in the process. This is in association with Cobham Sound, a recording and rehearsal space based in Surrey.
