Personal statement

“For so many people, television and movies may be the only way they understand people who aren't like them.”-Michelle Obama

Hey, I’m Ciara and I’m a third year Birmingham City University Student who is set to graduate in the summer of 2019.

I have a huge passion for the Television industry, and the way it can connect people from all aspects of life. Helping people understand different culture and finding out different issues that are happening in the world. I also believe that TV helps give people who wouldn’t usually have a platform to speak out, a voice.

During my three years at university I have gained valuable skills including:
Pre-production roles, including being a researcher on a Live Television chat show and being project manager on a music video.
During production the roles I have undertaken are being head of camera operators on a location shoot for a TV Drama. I was also the sound supervisor on a location documentary.

Post-production roles have included the use of Avid on a small documentary. I have also used Premier Pro on multiple longer documentaries.
I was selected to be involved in a two-week work experience programme at the BBC on a Cbeebies show called the ‘Let’s Go Club.’ This was an experience providing an insight into the world of television and it is what gave me the motivation and drive to continue wanting to work in the industry. I was also a social media manager for a local business boosting their online presence and giving them more audience.

At the moment I am working on a YouTube series called the “World Around Us” where I am showing different places around the North West for example, a popular camping site in Blackpool, and explaining what will happen before, and during their experience. The purpose of this is to help people with Autism by providing them with expectations for when they go.

More personally, I run a lifestyle blog where I talk about my experience with mental health and give advice on different life events including bereavement and friendships. This is something I believe will help others who may relate to a variety of problems and show them that they are not alone.

I would love to work on more projects, so if you have anything in mind I would love to help out.
