I’m Tamira Bello, a 23 year old graduate. I studied Media and Communications (Television) at Birmingham City University, passing with a 2:1. With photography enjoy taking pictures of landscapes but I like to specialise in portraiture. I also have made some films myself and been involved in multiple other projects which you can find on my website.
For my final project I am working on a project looking at the Drag Culture in Birmingham, where I will be documenting performances in local bars and clubs. This will feature on a instagram in hopes to promote these artists. @DragqueensofBirmingham
In future I would like to collaborate on more film and photography projects as well as continuing freelance work.
Please take the time to look over some of my work.
Through cultivating and utilizing a confident, creative, and hardworking attitude, I have acquired work experience in Journalism and Radio, the latter of which I hadn't even discovered my passion for until I enrolled at Birmingham City University.
I have also been able to start and slowly build a multimedia brand called Kickin' Out at Three with two fellow students, which started out as a simple professional wrestling podcast. We've since expanded onto YouTube, hosted a WWE viewing party, and are currently working on a feature length television documentary. The friends and connections we’ve made in the wrestling business have helped us build the positive rapport we need within that industry in order to make that documentary a success.
As for my other individual experience, I have had written pieces published for publications such as Birmingham Eastside, for whom I was the Sports Editor in 2017. I’ve also worked as a Sports Reporter and Commentator for Switch Radio since Spring 2018, which has given me various opportunities to expand my knowledge of broadcast media, and also achieve a dream in making my football commentary debut. Speaking of Switch, I was also able to get “My Brain Is Sick”, a short radio documentary I created about mental health, aired out live during Mental Health Awareness Week.
Oh, and you may have heard of FADE Radio at some point this year? Well I was one of the four creators of the station, and in turn became the Sports Producer for the entirety of our run.
As for my future ambitions, my immediate goal is to successfully complete and obtain a Masters Degree in Media Production next year, whilst still remaining at BCU. As much as I don’t want to completely divert away from Journalism, I feel as though I need to take a step back from it in order to develop the way I wish to, and gain the knowledge and skills I require to become a far more marketable asset to any future employer of mine.
I’d certainly like to continue to create and produce television and radio documentaries in the future, and even potentially go into directing feature films should things fall into the right place at the right time.
And as a side project, I would also like to launch a clothing brand before the end of 2020.
A driven individual specialising in Photography. I have gained experience in many fields of Photography over the last six years including; Weddings, Fashion, Events and Landscapes. I now have paid experience in Weddings and Events. Having taken part in work experience with a Photography Company based in Lancashire six years ago, I have been working for the company ever since. I have worked both as an assistant and solo on behalf of the company at Weddings and Events. This work, plus work done at University and in my spare time, has built up my portfolio and therefore led me to receive both paid and TFP work from my online portfolios.
I have collaborated with MUA's, Models, Designers and other photographers of both professional and amateur levels in order to build up my portfolio.
For my final project at University, I have created an Instagram Page named 'Drag Queens of Birmingham' on which I intend to tell the stories of and showcase the local Drag Talent in Birmingham. Throughout this project I have been working with new people to broaden my portfolio and social network further.
